Sadly high blood pressure (Hypertension) in cats can lead to other health complaints including blindness. This is known as Target Organ Damage. Hypertension can only be detected by a blood pressure check and diagnosed by your cat's veterinary surgeon after they have had their blood pressure checked.
When Pippin turned 7 the vets I worked at had started promoting yearly blood pressure checks for cats over 7 years old, so Pippin had hers checked. Luckily for Pippin this was done as she had Hypertension and it was caught before she experienced Target Organ Damage. Pippin's case highlights the importance of yearly Blood Pressure checks for cats over 7 years old.
